Its been about half a year that I do my job as a teacher and a trainer. I am still learning to improve myself though to be a better teacher and to make a difference in my students lives.
It is my prayer and my greatest dream to make a big difference in other people’s lives, even with a small and simple thing, and that’s what I’m trying to do with my students.
So, working as a teacher is challenge for me. I’ve been blessed with an environment that allows me to grow, a place that allows me to improve, a boss that is very smart and is a great motivator. I learn to do things that I never did before. I learn how to appreciate time and make the best of every second given to me. To be honest with you, its not easy as I am a very unorganized person. But I learn to change coz I realize that time is running and I have to keep up or else I’ll be the one that is left behind. I learn that my dreams can’t wait. To many times we dream a lot without putting an effort to make it happen. We keep our dreams in the future while we stay in the present, dreaming, and forever it will remain the same if we don’t walk towards our dreams.
I’m a dreamer and for quite a long time I don’t realize that I make my dreams eternal dreams coz my dreams are in the future while I’m here in the present, doing nothing but dreaming. I was awaken one day when I saw a quote on the wall of my office. It says :
“A goal is a dream with a deadline”
~Napoleon Hill~
It changed my perspective about dream. It showed me how unwilling I have been to fight for it. I take too much time to make it happen. In fact, I’m overwhelmed by my own dreams that I don’t realize I’ve been sleeping too long. I need to wake up and dream awake.
So I'm challenged after reading that quote. Now that I can see, if I really am willing or not to fight for my dreams.
I use this quote to challenge my students as well.
First I ask about their greatest dream in life and will they fight for it. All of them said yes.
Then I ask them what's their goal coming to FORTUNA (the place where I teach.) And all of them said "to be able to speak english"
So I challenged them to make this goal their dream and to put a deadline on it. When will it come true in their lives?
They took a breath and said, "Sir, that's just impossible. We can't do it."
But its your dream now I said. Will you fight for your dream? So they finally said yes and accepted the challenge.
Some give 6 months to themselves, some 4 months, some 2 months and there's this one student who just moved to my class, she gives one week for herself to speak english. Her name is Elleanora, a fifth grader. But I was amazed at how she put a deadline for her dream. Not even my 27 year old student wanna do that.
Now I am here to tell you how Elleanora's english skill progressed within 2 days. Awesome!!! Her grandma was surprised at how her grand daughter studies till 12 at night since then.
A week went by and Elleanora doesn't immediately speaks english well, but looking at the progress of her skill, I can tell you that she's on her way to success.
Now, are you greater than the fifth grader?
If Elleanora is willing to fight for her dream, what about you?
Now think for a moment before you go on reading and ask yourself, “what is your greatest dream in life?”
Yea I mean your dream, the greatest one you can think of. It can be the thing that you want to do or the thing you want to be. You have one, don’t you? Coz in fact, life is not going anywhere if you don’t have dreams.
Now after knowing what your dream is, the next question is, will you fight for your dream? Yea will you do anything to make it happen?
How much are you willing to put an effort to your dream?
Now, of course you have goals in your life. What is said in the quote above is to make your goal your dream, and put a deadline on it.
Why putting a deadline? Well, I tell you what, we make excuse a lot. Too many people have problem with integrity, including myself. Too many times we say we wanna do this and that but we end up doing nothing. This is a virus and you don’t want to risk your dream of course.
One good thing about putting a deadline is that you’re on your way to get your dream. Its not gonna be staying forever in your future, in fact you’re future is soon becoming your present.
I tell you this, your dream and your future are not that far. You just need to make a move because the fact is, nothing is too far as long as you are willing to take a step.
After reading this article, I hope you check again your dreams list and see how many of them have you been fighting for. If you find none, you might wanna take this challenge .
My students made a commitment to fight for their dreams, and this is their declaration :
“Today I decided to put a deadline to my dream to speak English, and within 4 months from now I will have spoken English well. This is my dream and I am willing to fight for it”
I can’t wait till 4 months to hear them saying :
“Four months ago, I decided to put a deadline to my dream to speak English, I fought for it and now I am here to tell you that my dream comes true!”
Well I hope this quote motivates you as much as it does to me.
Now dream awake and make it happen!!!
God bless you.
